Mann Aviation Group Engineering Ltd, an authorized Twin Commander service center based at Fairoaks Airport near London Heathrow, has been acquired by Gama Group and combined with Gama Group subsidiary Lees Avionics Ltd. to form Gama Engineering Ltd.

Gama Engineering will continue to provide engineering and certification support to Twin Commander operators as well as other general aviation, helicopter, and regional operators, the company said. Lees Avionics has been moved to Gama Engineering’s dedicated hangars and facility at Fairoaks to provide operators with convenient and efficient one-stop airframe and avionics support.

Mann Aviation specialized in Twin Commander service since it was founded in 1968. Over the years the company developed a reputation as a leading MRO specialist in the U.K., providing modifications and support services for a wide range of fixed-wing and helicopter types for both civilian and military operators. Now under the Gama Engineering banner, it remains the U.K.’s only fully accredited Twin Commander service center.

Gama Engineering’s Twin Commander team is led by Fred Gomez, who has more than 30 years of hands-on experience with Commanders. He has worked on just about every model, including the piston-powered Shrike, and according to the company is “particularly proud” that Gama Engineering looks after the last Twin Commander built (VP-BCT, 695B serial number 96208).

“Such is the reputation of Fred and his team for quality and on-time delivery that many Twin Commander operators are prepared to fly their aeroplanes from the other side of the world to Fairoaks, be it for ‘TLC’ as well as major refurbishments,” the company said. “A walk round the hangars today reveals Twin Commanders from as far away as New Zealand to some based closer to home, such as in the Isle of Mann.”

At the time of this writing Gama Engineering’s shop had New Zealand Aerial Mapping Ltd.’s 690A in for an extensive Garmin avionics upgrade including a G600 EFIS, GWX68 Weather Radar, GTS820 TCAS, GPS nav/com, and a Cobham/S-TEC 65 autopilot.

Gama Engineering has EASA/FAR Part 145 certification and offers full turnkey EASA Part 21J design and Part 21G manufacturing services.
