SimCom Training Centers is anticipating FAA approval of its two Twin Commander motion simulators in February, according to the company.

The two sims were purchased last year from FlightSafety International and moved to SimCom’s Dallas/Ft.Worth training center.

SimCom currently is conducting Twin Commander pilot initial and recurrent training using a visual-motion Flight Training Device (FTD) for the Model 690, programmed with Dash 10 engine performance and operation. The FTD has a high-definition 180-degree wraparound visual system, allowing for realistic training for circling approach procedures in day and night conditions. The FTD is equipped with a Garmin 530 Comm/GPS/WAAS.

The motion sims include one for the Twin Commander 1000, and another for the 690-series that can be programmed for either Dash 5 or Dash 10 engine performance. Both sims are equipped with Garmin 530 GPS/Comms and day and night visual systems.

SimCom said it expects FAA certification of the 1000 sim in mid-February; FAA approval of the 690 sim is ongoing, and the company hopes to put it in service by the end of February. Both will be certified as Level A motion sims, meaning landings cannot be logged.

SimCom said it also is in the process of becoming a contract flight training provider for Twin Commander operators who utilize their airplanes for Part 135 on-demand air-taxi operations.
