Help with my Commander 690B!

Postby enriquep100 » Fri Jan 08, 2010 2:03 pm

Hello everyone,

I am glad I've finally joined your forum!

Alright, here is my case and I would really thank if some of you guys could provide some help and advice.

We have a Commander 690B, which we have owned it for the last two years. Since then, it's been based in Venezuela purely for domestic flights, and sometimes to the Caribbean islands.

To make the story short, it's been quite a pain to have this plane in Venezuela (for maintenance purposes, of course!). There's a certified maintenance center in the place which, to my opinion, is strictly inefficient, they promise and never deliver, and very very expensive.

The plane currently has several issues with its avionics (which the center hasn't been able to fix in the last two years), and most importantly, has a Turbine Hot Section due in the next 35 hours. These people already "scheduled" an appointment to bring the Commander in and are estimating non less than 3 months of grounding to get this done.

Given the million problems we've had with these people in the past, we're evaluating the option of taking it to either Ft. Lauderdale or Naples to get both the turbine and the avionics done. This would be a 4-hr trip (8 hr total) and then wait until its done. The advantage is, I live in Daytona Beach, so it's very easy for me to take care of it.

So, has any of you performed a hot section already? If so, how long did it take and how much money did you spend? Would you advise me to take it there or keep going with these people from Venezuela?

Thanks in advance!

Enrique

Buenas Tardes Enrique.

Atentamente,

Good afternoon Enrique.
reading your post here in the forum about the squack in avionics and the hot section in your commander.

Aerocentro de Servicios,C.A. a private owned company whit 30 year in the Venezuelan market, we got the most trained technitians, best equiped facility and the most important " We like what we do",about your problems in the avionics matter, and getting in touch whit the avionics manager we are more than glad to provide all the help and the best timing to solve all your commander needs!

About the Hot Section, here in Aerocentro, we like to provide the quality in pricing and less time whit the aicrafth on the ground, The kit for this job can be order prior the schedulle day set up by the owner to perfom it, all parts have to go under inspection to determine which one its still good to fly again on the sema engine, for thoose who are not under the parameters or limit life and cycle due, have to be replaced but the only way to find out that answer its only whit inspection done, that takes time to find it and bringing down to Venezuela.
It take¨s time to clear customs and all the paper work to get the parts in the engine shop, some times that are not in our hands or customers best wishes to clear all the goverment phases quick as we desire.

Please feel free to contact me, Best regards

Hi All!

Related to (I suppouse) Garrett/Honeywell TPE-331 turbine engines Hot Sections Inspection Time will takes about 3/4 weeks to be carried out in a satisfactory way (based on European Time, worked out at Sun Air in Denmark).
Your only "time spending thing" is the availability of spare parts and the time required to get it everywhere you are!
So shure in the USA the damn' things will come fastly, BUT you spend about 8 flying hours to get there and so on to get back, which calculated on a 690B is about 15.000 $ or something like this.

Emanuele

Hello Enrique,

How did you make out with the hot sections? I like to know how the story ends.

I read the feedback from other folks and it was all good. Logistics play such a big part in turn times for maintenance, a service provider sometimes takes heat for events out of their control. If a kit program is used the down time increases because the kits usually cannot be stocked in advance. Thirty years ago we could do two hot sections in 5 days. We still could if we didn't strive to reduce the operators costs by using these kits. Any time a government entity is involved customs, etc the situation never gets better.
It isn't a good feeling to lose confidence in your maintenance provider. I hope things worked out for the best.
